Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Our Key Initiatives in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals
(A) We develop and propose products that contribute to health promotion
- From good sleep to good health
In the modern era when the word "sleep debt" is nominated for a buzzword award, our marshmallow gauze pajamas have obtained the evidence that "97% of them feel a good night's sleep." Going forward, we will continue to launch “Sleep = UCHINO” and strengthen development and proposals that lead to good sleep and health.
- Making products that people with sensitive skin can use with peace of mind
Many of our products have been selected as recommended by the Japan Atopy Association and can be used safely by people with sensitive skin. We will strengthen the development of products that are less irritating and that are kind to the skin, and establish a brand called "Skin-friendly = UCHINO".
(B) Aim for 100% use of sustainable cotton
We are promoting the conversion to sustainable raw materials that are friendly to the environment and society. Already our main products such as marshmallow gauze and happiness towels are made of sustainable cotton from the United States and Australia, but in the future we will increase the usage rate further, and in the UCHINO brand products, we will increase the usage rate of sustainable cotton to 2025. We aim for 70% at the end of the year and 100% at the end of 2030.
(C) Support people suffering from disasters and diseases
For many years, donation of products to organizations and companies that support areas where normal living has become difficult due to damage from the earthquake or typhoons, and those whose quality of life have deteriorated due to illness or poverty.
(D) Carry out environmentally friendly economic activities
Generally, we will use environmentally friendly raw materials for product labels and packaging, packaging materials used in stores, and shopping bags as compared to the current situation. (Example: Use of environmentally friendly paper, use of reusable bags).
In principle, we use reusable corrugated cardboard to reduce the amount used by improving the efficiency of logistics operations. We will donate or reuse used products. We will reduce the burden on the environment by making the company paperless.
(E) Do not make products under unfair working environment
Instruct all manufacturing factories and all supply chains outsourced to prevent various types of discrimination, child labor, unfair employment, and unfair labor, and conduct regular external agency audits.
(F) Aiming for an environment of equality
Many of our customers are women, and we also seek to actively and equally promote women who are close to our customers as executives. We will also create an environment in which women can work with peace of mind and promote the active participation of both sexes throughout the Company.
